Drink Responsibly
We write about bars, pubs and clubs because we like going to them — not because we think more drinking is the goal. A few basics we'd actually tell a friend before a night out.
Know your limits
Pace yourself, eat before and during, and alternate with water if you're out for more than a couple of hours. It's fine to nurse one drink all night at any venue we list — nobody's rating you on it.
Sort out transport before you go out
Decide how you're getting home before you start drinking, not after. Don't drink and drive — book a Grab or a taxi, or agree in advance who's staying sober enough to drive. If you're heading somewhere without much late-night transport (parts of Langkawi, for instance), check how you'll get back before you commit to the last round.
Check in with your group
If you're out with friends, keep track of each other — don't let anyone leave alone with someone they just met, and have a plan for what happens if the group splits up. Share your location with someone if you're heading somewhere new.
Venue basics
Watch your drink from order to sip, don't leave it unattended, and use licensed transport rather than flagging down whatever's nearest at 2am. If something feels off about a venue or a situation, it's fine to just leave — there's another bar on this list.
